Microadventures!
“You liked the fields of gold? This time of year (May) the UK is covered in them, particularly in the south! It is oil seed rape flowers, and is one of the great things about this time of year in the UK. You gradually see the yellow emerge from the green stalks, and then all of a sudden if you go into the countryside you see these fantastic golden fields. The ones in the photos are all in Essex in the south of England.”
“All the photos are either from microadventures, or from walks I have done recently.”
I asked Nigel Bailey PhD about Microadventures. This is a great concept!
“In essence, it’s an evening sleeping under the stars, with friends (or alone for a different kind of experience) as an opportunity to reboot your system and have some fun. It is a reminder that you don’t need to plan extravagant adventures for 6 months on the other side of the world to get away from it all, and that simply sleeping in a wood or on a hillside a few miles from home is all it needs to give you a feeling of achievement.”
Alastair Humphrey, Author and Blogger, says in his A Year of Microadventure Post,
“An adventure that is close to home, cheap, simple, short, and yet very effective.
You do not need to fly to the other side of the planet to do an expedition.
You do not need to be an elite athlete, expertly trained, or rich to have an adventure.
Adventure is only a state of mind.
Adventure is stretching yourself; mentally, physically or culturally. It is about doing what you do not normally do, pushing yourself hard and doing it to the best of your ability.
And if that is true then adventure is all around us, at all times. Even during hard financial times such as these. Times, I believe, when getting out into the wild are more enjoyable, invigorating and important than ever.
I am going to spend the year chasing adventure close to home. I will not go on overseas expeditions. I will explore my own country, and I will seek out short, interesting, rewarding adventures right here on my doorstep.
Why don’t you have a go yourself?”
