Birds are indicators of the environment. If they are in trouble, we know we’ll soon be in trouble. Roger Tory Peterson
Recently I heard about this amazing (96 years old in 2019) Bluebird Man in Idaho, Al Larson, and his tireless work to restore Idaho’s bird, the Mountain Bluebird.
You can watch this little film about him (less than 30 minutes long and very informative and enjoyable):
Bluebird Man – Al Larson Bluebird Recovery Documentary
When Mr. Larson retires it may take many people to replace him and the fine work he’s done to successfully restore ONE bird.
Housing is a big issue for the Mountain Bluebird, just like it is for humans. Part of Larson’s work was building and installing nest boxes. He’s clear that the more the nests are monitored, the better chance each baby bird has to succeed.
His work is so important and is testimony to humans helping and protecting nature, and the joy of watching nature thrive in endemic environments.
Please see the documentary and let me know what you think!
